Alea Balta is one of the main heroines of Paradise War, and appears in Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki.
Appearance
Alea has bi-colored hair. She has long wavy brown in the back and pink hair that she ties off in separate fringes and poof balls to the sides. She is the youngest and shortest of the main guild representatives and has a matching youthful look. On the island, she tends to wear a light two-piece summer dress decorated with the Balta Guild symbol.
Background
Alea comes from one of the many pirate groups who took the name "Balta" to honor the Pirate leader and to signify their inclusion in the guild but are almost certainly not directly related to the original Balta family that includes King Balta and Ryoko Balta. Because of her position, she was approximately 23200th in line for the guild’s succession.
Alea was named the representative from the Balta Guild to fight in a galactic proxy war to determine the leader of a new pirate nation. On the island she meets Minamida, the island's caretaker, Miron Pham, the island's doctor and school teacher, and her main opponents are Dird Shank, Palty Jurai, Apuesta Daluma and later, Shou Kukoma. The space pirate guilds did not want to name one of their most prominent pirate members for the fight and all ended up nominating young, but gifted, members as their proxy war representatives.
Alea has a sharp tongue and immediately called Dird an idiot upon arrival. However, when she learned of Dird's harsh upbringing she softened to her and decided to be responsible for her. The other girls consider her the keeper of the "big stupid dog." She is an excellent marksmen, meticulous, and thinks proactively about problems, but is lousy at close combat. The Guardian she uses usually has a giant beam weapon that fires out by her head.
She was forced to be the guild's representation to help pay a tremendous debt that her sister, Loretta, accumulated with her soon-to-be ex-husband, Alan, the incompetent former GP officer and relentless schemer. Alan abandoned Loretta, leaving her pregnant and shouldering the entire debt. Alea lives with Loretta and her niece, Melissa. At one point, Alan infiltrated the island with a hare-brained scheme to swindle the guilds into paying for his services and Alea helped hide him with the understanding that he would leave as soon as possible. It did not go well for him.
