Space pirates

Galactic space pirates mainly raid and steal from transport ships, spaceports, or planets without adequate defense. It is common for pirates to come to an agreement within the various federations and governments for pirates not to kill those on the ships in exchange for the police and armies to avoid lethal force when battling pirates. Not all pirates heed these rules and lose the same protections. For most pirates, piracy is basically a family business. They inherit their ships and steal to live their lives and support their families. Pirates who lose their ships find it difficult to afford new ones and often have to settle on a planet.
