Dird Shank is one of the main heroines of Paradise War, and appears in Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki.

Appearance

Like Tarant Shank, who would be a distant and unwanted relative, Dird has dark skin and white hair. She wears her hair long, is relatively tall and athletic. On the island, she tended to wear rather informal clothes like a wrap skirt and a tied off, sleeveless, half blouse.

Background

Dird was named the representative from the Shank Guild to fight in a galactic proxy war to determine the leader of a new pirate nation. On the island she meets Minamida, the island's caretaker, Miron Pham, the island's doctor and school teacher and her main opponents are Alea Balta, Palty Jurai, Apuesta Daluma and later, Shou Kukoma. The space pirate guilds did not want to name one of their most prominent pirate members for the fight (for fear of them falling in battle) and all ended up nominating young, but still-gifted, members as their proxy war representatives. She was 1882nd in line for the guild’s succession.

She seems ditzy and air-headed. She is occasionally mischievous but is friendly and a mood-maker. She is quite like an over-energetic puppy. However, when she fights, she is like a wild animal and through her natural instincts, is probably, without formal training, a more skilled fighter even than your typical Juraian. In the proxy war, she uses a Guardian suit that typically features gauntlets and anklets for punching and kicking.

In the novels, it's revealed she was one of the spectators watching the fight between Seiryo Tennan and Tarant Shank for captaincy of the good luck fleet..

Despite her cheerful demeanor, she grew up rather neglected and craves acceptance. She is an orphan without close family. Her main guardian, who moved with her to the island, was a technician who is her Great-Great-Great-Great-Uncle. When she was with the guild, they never stayed in one place long because they had to escape from authorities and tried their best to steer clear of Tarrant, who was ruthless to even his own guild members. Yet, they apparently couldn't avoid him after Seina destroyed the Daidalus, and she says her group had to aide Tarant when he infiltrated Seina's wedding facility. Until moving to Banjo Island, she had never lived in a natural environment with vegetation, animals, and its own weather.
