Mihoshi Special

EuTiJ6TWQAEXqHs

The Mihoshi Special may have originally been meant to be a part of the Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki canon, serves as a partial introduction of Kiyone Makibi for Tenchi Universe, and of Pretty Sammy, but it ultimately stands on its own. In the story Mihoshi recalls, she tells of her and Kiyone's battle with a notorious space pirate. For convenience sake, she casts Ryoko as the pirate.

The movie, Daughter of Darkness, was actually based off the 12th out of 13 novels written by Naoko Hasegawa, a scriptwriter for the first season of Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki. In it, a girl named Mayuka arrives and claims to be Tenchi's daughter and her origin and connection to Yuzuha (the antagonist in this film) is investigated. Ryoko is extremely suspicious of Mayuka and unwilling to accept her. She triggers Mayuka to produce a light sword to do battle with her and strands her on top of a tree when she discovers her acting suspiciously. Tenchi even ends up slapping her. She does join in the final fight and welcomes Mayuka in the finale, when a way is discovered to save her.

Hasegawa novels

This film is the only contact most non-Japanese fans have had with Hasegawa branch continuity. The first book of the series, The Hexagon of Love, was produced with the cooperation of Masaki Kajishima and briefly considered original canon. The second and third novels retell the story of the first season of Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki. but afterwards branch off into their own direction which is sort of a combination of both the OVA and Universe canons. None of the novels have been officially translated outside of Japanese, so little is known about the character development within them.

Okuda manga

No Need For Tenchi9

Two official manga series have been created by Hitoshi Okuda - No Need For Tenchi and Shin Tenchi Muyo! (aka The All-New Tenchi Muyo!). Based on the OVA series and branching off after episode 13.5. The manga series generally has a lighter attitude than the anime series and the characters personalities reflect this.

Ai Tenchi Muyo!

AiRyoko00

In a new continuity that seems largely related to Tenchi Universe, with small differences, an experiment of Washu's has caused a big mess by displacing a couple Juraian travelers in space and time. Two versions of Ryoko show up in the series, one shows up hundreds of years ago in Japan, still a wanted space pirate (before she knew Tenchi) and ends up disappearing in a dimensional rift with another early Mihoshi. What directly happenned is not revealed. In the present day, Ryoko helps Tenchi with his mission to help Washu fix her mess.

Trivia

  • In this series, Ryoko also seems to have an intense rivalry with Beni Kinojyou, the two usually trying to outmatch each other in physical strength.
