Makoto Hozumi (穂積 誠 Hozumi Makoto) is the third member of the club, and a magical girl.

She's extremely insecure about her small stature, which is very short even compared to other girls her age (137 cm). To compensate, she acts tough and brash, or attempts schemes to grow up faster, like drinking her entire school's milk supply. Ironically, her magic powers grant her the ability to change her size or that of other objects at will

Personality

Makoto feels very insecure about her small stature. This insecurity is the reason she often tries to compensate by acting tough. However, she's also naturally quite tomboyish. Often being blunt, loud, and tough, her personality often puts her at odds with her friend Anri who is just as headstrong as she is.

Makoto is also the most boy crazy of all the girls of the club, as she seized their first visit to try to meet boys and get their contact information, a fact that Anri used to tease her. She also said on two separate occasions that she thought Amitav was cute, if a little weird, a fact that made Sasami jealous.

Powers and Abilities

Besides having the general spells all magic users share, her more unique magical speciality is the ability to either shrink or enlarge herself, or other objects at will.

The term "gravity manipulation" is used within the story to describe this power. However, it appears to solely affect the size of objects, with minimal impact on their mass and no effect on gravity itself.However, her power to change size seems to have limitations. Even after unlocking her magic, her default size remains unchanged, suggesting she can't permanently alter it at will, or with enough finese to make the change beliveable.

While size alteration is her magic speciality, this power isn't unique to her as she was easily defeated by a member of the Shining Star Magical Girl team that had greater mastery of "gravity manipulation" magic than her,

Just like all other Magical girls of the "cooking club" she gained the power to channel light magic thanks to her friendship with Sasami.

Etymology

• The name Makoto means "sincerity" (誠).
• Makoto's surname Hozumi means "grain" (穂) (ho) and "product" (積) (zumi).

Trivia

• Makoto has a slight resemblance with Eimi Date from Magical Project S. Both are short-haired brunette magical girls who are very blunt, loud and assertive. However, Makoto is obsessed with her height, while Eimi is focused on enforcing the school's rules.
• Interestingly, Makoto is the only girl in the magical girl club who does not seem to be particularly close to anyone. While Tsukasa and Anri are paired together, just like Misao and Sasami are, even in promotional material, Makoto is usually by herself. This suggests that she is not as close to the other girls as they are to each other, even though she is friends with all of them. Unlike Misao, who is often hurt by her lack of friends, she doesn’t seem to particularly mind it.
