Storytellers are characters in Sasami: Magical Girls Club. They are humans who live in the world of magic, and descendants of the powerless humans that decided to abandon the human world to live among the witches in another dimension.

Storytellers do not have magic powers of their own, and their knowledge of magic is limited to the basics they need to survive in their world. They can only use magic items that have been enchanted by a magic user, such as the special train that can transport anyone to the World of Witches. In fact this was the main reason Washu struggled teaching the girls magic. Her mission was actually to teach the girls of the club to suppress their own magic and be more “normal[1]”. But after Washu rebelled, she just couldn’t keep up and give them the same quality magical education the witches gave to their own magical girls.

The witches use barriers to exclude storytellers[2], making it clear that storytellers are of lower status. The witches also keep information from storytellers on purpose, as evidenced by the fact that storytellers like Washu and Daimon were unaware of the Chief Sorceress's true plans, but the witches themselves weren’t[3] . Storytellers also take orders from the witches, as seen by the fact that Washu, Daimon, and Ginji were all agents of the witches before they defected.

Ginji Iwakura is an anomaly among the story tellers as he somehow gained magic due to his duties guardian “ The black Cauldron.”[4]

Trivia

  • They are analogous to muggles, and squibs from the Harry Potter Franchise. As in they are regular people living among magical beings in a magical world.
