Tenchi Muyo Wiki

Sasami meets a young man named Tenchi Masaki, who happens to be the assistant director of the popular TV show The Blue Sky Cool Rangers, and soon begins to have a crush on him. When Tenchi is allowed to direct the latest episode of Cool Rangers, he enlists the help of Pretty Sammy and has her star as an actor, but the shooting is interrupted by Pixy Misa and her Love-love Monster "Special Effects Girl".

Full Recap

While walking home with groceries and admiring the beautiful scenery around here, Sasami accidentally bumps into a young man and injures her foot. The stranger offers to carry Sasami home.

In the CD Store, Honoka thanks the man, Mr. Tenchi Masaki, for bringing Sasami home. He then asks Honoka about how well CDs of The Blue Sky Cool Rangers are selling at her store, revealing that he is the show's assistant director and that he's going to be allowed to personally direct this week.

The next day at school, Misao notices Sasami reading an encyclopedia for the Cool Rangers series. When asked why she purchased that, Sasami answers that the people who make the show are really nice.

After school, Sasami goes to the studio where Cool Rangers is produced and tries to find Tenchi so she can deliver a CD that he ordered from Honoka's store. She finds a woman who tells her that probably Tenchi is currently reading the script in the staff room. The woman offers to deliver the CD to Tenchi, but Sasami is adamant about personally delivering the CD since he had promised to pick it up earlier at the CD Store, but forgotten. Unfortunately, when she then finds the staff room, she isn't allowed inside since Tenchi is indeed busy. While she futilely waits outside, Tenchi argues against changes to the script for the next episode as it would ruin the romantic action he wanted to introduce and begs the show's producers to let him try things his way.

At school again, Sasami is doodling in class when she realizes she sketched Tenchi's face and tries to erase it, but not before Misao notices. As they're preparing to leave, Sasami tells Misao that she has to be somewhere and can't walk home with her. Coincidentally, Sasami finds Tenchi as she's trying to deliver the CD again. She asks if something's wrong, but while Tenchi remembers how he reluctantly agreed to change the script the previous night, he simply says that it's "boring adult stuff" that she shouldn't be worried about.

At home, Sasami asks her parents when she will become an adult, but they tell her that she's already a lovely lady and that she should just be herself. She then promises that she'll tell Tenchi about how she feels tomorrow.

The next day, Sasami visits the studio and finds the stage where Tenchi is directing the newest episode, but she is unaware that Misao had followed her. Misao believes that Sasami has been coming here to play and that she didn't tell her because she no longer likes her. Rumiya, in bird form, interrupts Misao's thoughts and hypnotizes her.

On stage, one of the actors becomes frustrated with Tenchi's demand for retakes and walks off, causing one of the producers to cancel the shooting for the day. Sasami sees this and transforms into Pretty Sammy. Sammy asks Tenchi if she can fill in for the role, promising that she'll do her best despite not being as talented as the last actor. Tenchi accepts, and the producers allow him to continue shooting since they believe that having Pretty Sammy in their show will make them famous in the industry and help boost ratings. Meanwhile, Pixy Misa and a Love-love Monster hide in a catwalk above the stage and await the scene's climax before they target Pretty Sammy.

The shooting with Pretty Sammy begins, but just as Sammy is about to speak her line, where she'll act as a decoy if it'll mean saving the others, Pixy Misa interrupts. She then orders her Love-love Monster, Special Effects Girl-a woman wearing appendages of a film camera, to total the set.

Special Effects Girl uses her magic to trap everyone except Sammy in giant animal costumes, and Misa explains that they'll eventually become real monsters. Pretty Sammy demands that Pixy Misa turn them back to normal, but Misa will only do it if she agrees to surrender. Misa then demands to say that line she was originally going to say about sacrificing herself. Sammy speaks her line, but ad-libs that she doesn't want to do that, and proceeds to attack. Pixy Misa abandons Special Effects Girl to be annihilated by Pretty Coquettish Bomber.

After the battle, Pretty Sammy asks Tenchi if she can change her line to what she just said, and he agrees to change the script and have it where instead of being a decoy, Sammy fights alongside the Cool Rangers in an awesome scene.

However, at home, Sasami gets a call from Tenchi and immediately rushes out to find him loading his belongings onto a moving truck. He explains to Sasami that, despite making a great episode, he was fired because there was a fuss with changing the story of the Cool Rangers episode, and now he's moving to Kyoto after being hired as a theatrical director. The woman who had helped Sasami with directions to the staff room earlier, now named Keiko ("Kei-chan"), is helping Tenchi with moving, implying that the two of them are in a relationship. Tenchi asks Sasami to tell Pretty Sammy that it was fun working with her before driving off.

As Sasami watches through her now teary vision, Misao catches up with her, and Sasami starts crying and holds onto Misao as Ryo-Ohki watches from above. Meanwhile, Sasami narrates, noting that it wasn't until much later that she started to think that maybe this was what love felt like.

Trivia

  • The Blue Sky Cool Rangers is clearly a parody of the popular tokusatsu television series Super Sentai, which is also the source of footage for the American television series Power Rangers.
  • Of all the main Tenchi Muyo! characters to be featured in this series, Tenchi himself is the only one to have his name remain unchanged. Other characters either have different last names (as is the case with Kiyone Amayuri and Mihoshi Mizutani) or completely different names (such as Ayeka being named Romio and Ryoko named "Overly Splendid" Oryo).
  • Keiko is voiced by Yuka Koyama, who is also the voice of Mitsuki from Tenchi Universe
  • This episode continues the trend of Pixy Misa targeting people or places that cause her pain as Misao. In this case, Sasami began spending a lot of time with Tenchi, neglecting her time with Misao. Misao started to suspect that Sasami was avoiding her because she no longer liked her. As a result, Pixy Misa targeted the Blue Sky Rangers crew along with Tenchi.
