To date, there are seventeen volumes in the True Tenchi Muyo! GXP series of light novels. The eighth volume in the series was written by Masaki Kajishima and acts as a prelude to some of the key events in episode 16 of the GP anime itself. This volume is only available in Japan.

The details of this novel largely parallel those of the anime episodes Neju Who? and Runaway Fuku in which Seina and the Kamidake accompany Neju to the Galaxy Academy and then Fuku runs away because the other's efforts to create a secondary system to the Kamidake make her feel unappreciated, ignored, and lonely.

Some differences include:

• Ryo-Ohki's return to the Masaki residence after having delivered Fuku's egg to Jurai.
• A chapter in which Kyo Komachi is shown pictures of Naja Akara and she realizes a resemblance between her and Lady Seto. She contacts Seto and her suspicion is confirmed, but the entire conversation is very worrying to her as she realizes that such a secret may be dangerous information to know and although Seto tells her that it's not a big deal, she realizes it's not something she'll repeat, for fear of retribution.
