To date, there are seventeen volumes in the True Tenchi Muyo! GXP series of light novels. The ninth volume in the series was written by Masaki Kajishima and features a closer look at events before the visit to Earth in episode 16 of the series. This volume is only available in Japan.
Summary
While Seina's entourage try on various outfits during the holiday break from Academy, the Kamidake is already in space and only days away from Earth.
Seina soon reacquaints himself with Masaki relatives as they make their landing on the pond in front of the Masaki house. Light from the old ancestral tree hits Seina's forehead. This prompts Katsuhito to pick his brain about the old legend of the Masaki clan. He gets in character, describing Ryo-Ohki's horned protrusions as if she was a fierce dragon.
Noike busies Tenchi with meal preparations for their guests. Washu bumps into Mikami, who admits her feelings for Seina. The genius scientist demands she go back to her husband to address her sexual frustration. Airi overhears, and all hell breaks loose.
While Washu busies about meeting and greeting other guests on break from the Academy, Seina discusses with Tenchi the possibility of leaving to go adventure in space with him.
Later, Seina meets Tokimi when Tenchi prompts her to appear before their gathering. She brings Seina up to speed about the Choushin by tugging him into a view of the universe from outside of it. He laments that in his fright, he has sweated profusely and must disappear to bathe. They agree to discuss these larger topics later.
Meanwhile, on planet Seniwa, an elder in Mikami's household is calling relatives together to wax nostalgic.
